How I think

Take a look inside my brain, and see how I bring ideas to reality. Below I show how I developed my project Dapt.

Define the Problem

The first step in my design process is identifying a problem that needs solving.

In many towns across the world, especially in the northern hemisphere, the sun is a rare sight. This inspired me to create a supplement line that can help travelers adjust to the darkness in these areas, making their stay more comfortable and enjoyable.

Once I’ve identified a problem, I dive into in-depth research. Research allows me to understand my target audience, determine the best sales channel, develop effective messaging, and discover the most impactful approach to tackling the problem. Through research, I gain direction for the project and set a strong foundation before beginning the design phase.

For Dapt, I researched the locations of towns affected by perennial darkness, the impacts of sustained exposure to darkness, and the frequented travelers of those areas.

Gather my Research

After conducting research to establish a clear direction, I begin brainstorming ideas using mind maps, word banks, and sketches. These tools allow me to craft a unique name, logo, descriptor, copy, and ad campaign that effectively communicates the product's benefits to the target audience.

Below, you can see how I applied this approach in developing Dapt.

Repetition

After the brainstorming process, I refine my ideas by seeking feedback from my peers through critique and comparison. Then, I land on the best concept for my project to develop it from ideas into a solution.

Narrow it Down

With my ideas refined, it’s time to fire up my computer and bring my visions to life. Armed with a plethora of curated design elements, I channel my creative energy into crafting a solution that solves the problem with my own flair.
